Context & Problem
Emotivoo was already a functional rewards platform, but its user experience and visual layer were severely limiting its potential.
The product suffered from a heavy lack of UX/UI design maturity: an old and unattractive design, strong inconsistencies between screens, no consolidated design system, and no global components. Each section behaved differently, making the platform harder to understand and less engaging for users.
Although users could earn and redeem rewards, the experience failed to emotionally engage, guide users, or highlight the value of the Gift4-powered reward ecosystem.
The challenge was not to rebuild the business logic, but to redesign the experience so the platform could feel modern, coherent, scalable, and truly user-centered.
Objective
Redesign Emotivoo into a clear, attractive and scalable rewards platform by:
- Modernizing the visual language to increase trust and perceived value
- Consider bootstrap 5 CSS limitations for devs
- Creating a consistent UX across all sections of the platform
- Defining reusable global components and interaction patterns
- Improving discoverability of rewards and points information
- Making the points lifecycle easy to understand at a glance
- Turning reward redemption into a motivating and intuitive experience
All while keeping the existing business logic and Gift4 reward catalog intact.
Solution Overview
The redesign focused on structure, consistency and scalability, built around three key pillars:
Design system & global components
A unified design system was introduced to standardize typography, color, spacing, components and states, ensuring visual and interaction consistency across the platform.
Reward-centered experience
The marketplace and reward flows were redesigned to highlight value, clarity and emotional appeal, making rewards feel desirable and easy to reach.
Transparent user control
Clear dashboards and structured views were implemented to help users understand their points, redemptions and expirations without friction.
Reward Logic
Rewards are based on a points accumulation model:
- Users earn points through campaigns or participation
- Points can be redeemed once a minimum threshold is reached
- Each reward clearly displays its required points
- Users are warned when points are about to expire
Reward types supported:
- Digital gift cards (Amazon, Spotify, IKEA, fuel cards, etc.)
- Experiences and leisure activities
- Cinema tickets
- Donations to NGOs
Access & Onboarding
The platform prioritizes low-friction access. Users can log in quickly and immediately see their points balance and available rewards, without complex onboarding flows.
This ensures that the reward experience feels immediate and motivating from the first interaction.
Reward Marketplace
Once logged in, users can browse the reward catalog through clearly defined categories:
- Experiences
- Cinema tickets
- Gift cards
- Donations
Search and sorting options help users quickly find rewards that match their interests, even with a large catalog. The marketplace is designed to feel consumer-oriented, reinforcing the emotional value of rewards.
Reward Detail & Redemption
Each reward includes a dedicated detail view showing:
- Description of the reward
- Required points
- Redemption conditions
- Availability and limitations
If the user does not have enough points, the system clearly communicates what's missing, reinforcing goal-driven engagement.
Points & Activity Tracking
The "My points" section gives users full transparency over their activity:
- Available points
- Earned points
- Redeemed points
- Expired points
- Points close to expiration
Charts and historical tables help users understand their behavior over time and avoid losing unused rewards.
Redeemed Rewards Management
Once redeemed, rewards are stored in a dedicated section where users can:
- View active rewards
- Download vouchers or codes
- Check expiration dates
This eliminates uncertainty and reduces the need to contact support.
Design System & UI Foundations
A key part of the project was shifting from screen-based design to a system-based product.
A lightweight but scalable design system was created, including:
- Unified color palette and typography
- Standardized spacing and layout rules
- Reusable components and patterns
- Consistent interaction states (hover, active, disabled, empty)
Reusable global components were defined for navigation, cards, tables, buttons, forms, status badges and alerts, drastically reducing inconsistencies and improving development speed.
Results
The redesign delivered strong qualitative and quantitative impact:
- Higher reward redemption rates driven by clearer UX
- Improved user retention thanks to transparent progress and expiration awareness
- Reduced operational friction for teams managing incentives
- Strong preference for gift cards due to immediacy and flexibility
- A platform now ready to scale across markets and new campaigns
Takeaway
This project transformed Emotivoo from a functionally correct but visually outdated product into a coherent, modern rewards platform.
By introducing a strong UX/UI foundation, a reusable design system and a reward-first interaction model, the platform now communicates value clearly, scales efficiently, and supports long-term user engagement across Spain, France and Portugal.
